چکیده

A direct current, cold, atmospheric-pressure Ar/O2 (2%) plasma microjet (PMJ) was used to disinfect root canals in single-rooted extracted human teeth. Results showed that 98.8% Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) was inactivated in 8 min. However, the seemingly cleaned root canal was reinfected after a week, possibly due to the hard-to-reach infected dentinal tubules. It was found that a 30-min PMJ treatment could effectively prevent the reinfection. This presents a simple yet effective alternative to traditional treatment of root canal infections in endodontic therapy.

Application of Non-Thermal Plasma As An Endodontic Therapy For E.faecils Biofilm Infected Tooth Root Canal

E. faecalis grow within dentinal tubules, re-infect the obturated root canal and cause endodontic failure, which is the major reason for the failure of treatment of endodontic. Moreover, the biofilm of E. faecalis which have strong cantibiotic-resistance than planktonic bacteria, can also cause life-threatening infections in humans, especially in the nosocomial (hospital) environment. In this s...

Revascularization procedure in an open apex tooth with external root resorption: A case report

External inflammatory root resorption (EIR) represents a challenge in endodontic practice. EIR commonly occurs after dental trauma that results in periodontal ligament injury, pulp necrosis and subsequent infection.  Treatment of EIR is based on disinfecting the root canal system through chemomechanical procedures and then filling it with calcium hydroxide or triple antibiotic paste. Dental tra...

Effect of 808nm diode laser irradiation on root canal walls after smear layer removal: A scanning electron microscope study

INTRODUCTION This study was carried out to investigate the effect of 808nm diode laser irradiation on dentinal tubules of root canal wall. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twelve single-rooted teeth were used. After cleaning and shaping with rotary instruments by the crown down technique, the smear layer was removed by alternating irrigation with EDTA and sodium hypochlorite. The teeth were then randoml...
